Mayor and council cost taxpayers $412,252 last year.

The totals are in the 2013 statement of financial information set to be approved by city council at tonight's meeting.

Last year's amount is a little more than $6,500 more than the 2012 totals, with the mayor taking in $101, 297 in pay and allowances and the councillors each receiving $31,395 in compensation.

Mayor Shari Green's expenses came in at $14,106, which was almost a third less than what she billed the city for in 2012. Coun. Dave Wilbur spent the most out of the councillors, with an expense bill of $7,818, followed by Cameron Stolz at $5,888 and Frank Everitt at $5,469. Albert Koehler had the smallest expense claim at $3,881.

The 2013 statement also includes the list of city employees who earn more than $75,000. A total of 234 people fit that category, up by five people over 2012. Twenty-six per cent of that list brings in salaries of more than $100,000.

The amount of employees overall decreased from 890 to 865 people.

Among the city's top money earners in 2013 were operations director Bill Gaal ($159,394), legislative services director Walter Babicz ($140,665), planning director Ian Wells ($146,944), public safety and civic facilities director Rob Whitwham ($166,165) and city manager Beth James ($142,058).

Topping the list is corporate services director Kathleen Soltis at $190,357, who served as acting city manager until James was brought on last May.

James's annual compensation is expected to be closer to $212,000 for a full year. James came to Prince George from the Lower Mainland and received a one-time relocation allowance of up to $25,000.

The second-highest paid was former fire chief John lane, who took home $182,778. Lane resigned last August and was succeeded by John Iverson, who sits on the list at $143,837.

Council has picked the group set to look at their annual compensation. The once-per-term review that will make recommendations for mayor and council remuneration effective Jan. 1, 2015 will consist of Jim Blake, Jennifer Brandle-McCall, Alain LeFebvre, Adele Schlick and Trevor Williams.
