City vows it's blitzing snowfall

It's all hands on deck for snow clearing, according to operations superintendent Bill Gaal.

Wednesday's heavy snowfall prompted the use of all available city equipment on arterial and collector roads and problem hills, said Gaal. City and rental equipment were out Wednesday night to clear the downtown area and east and west arterial roads leading into the bowl area.

"[Thursday] we will have every piece of equipment out and that will be going on now until the snowfall is clean up," said Gaal, who added the use of private equipment more than doubles the city's fleet that's on the road.

Residential neighbourhoods aren't expected to be plowed until Friday. Those with garbage pickup scheduled for Monday would be the first priority (the red collection zone).

"I would at this point in time also anticipate that our crews will be working Saturday and Sunday," said Gaal.

Snow plowing information is available from the city's website and by calling 250-561-7600.
