The city will now grade and pave Ginter’s Trail parking lot.
Director of civic opearations Blake McIntosh brought a report before council to change the scope of the Foothills Blvd 18th Ave Roundabout Project to add grading and paving of the adjacent UNBC Connector Trail (Ginter’s Trail) parking lot.
The Foothills Blvd/18th Ave. Roundabout Project has an approved budget of $1.6 million. Project costs are currently projected to be less than $1.4 million and the remaining $200,000 budget would be used in 2023 to grade and pave the adjacent UNBC Connector Trail parking lot.
McIntosh said it would cost approximately $100,000 to complete these additional works.
"It’s good news, it is such a nice area of town and the fact that we can have a nice pave parking lot there. I think is great news," said Coun. Brian Skakun.
The report also states that requests to pave the parking lot came from the public after the construction announcement of the roundabout project.
He said grading and paving the parking lot will improve site drainage and reduce maintenance of the gravel lot, while also improving accessibility and connectivity to the UNBC Connector Trail.
City council passed the recommendation to change the scope of the project unanimously.
