City staff are recommending recreational vehicle users find another location to dump their waste.
During tonight's meeting, council will receive a report from parks and solid waste services manager Flavio Viola suggesting the elimination of the sani-dump at the Quinn Street transfer station.
The site, which as of April 1 stopped accepting solid waste, operates the sewerage dump station for public use from May to October.
"Over the years we have not kept track of the volume of use at the sani-dump, however anecdotally it has been used fairly regularly," Viola wrote. But staff said there are sufficient alternatives from seven private providers in the city to meet the demand.
Closing sani-dump at the Quinn Street location would allow for alternate use of the transfer station lands. If council supports the closure, the area will be incorporated into the 18th Avenue Yard and be used for public works purposes, said Viola.
Pulpmill Road plan
Tonight, council will also hold a public hearing on a plan to rezone and redesignate in the official community plan a parcel of nine properties bound by North Pulpmill Road and Highway 97.
The proposed changes are to facilitate light industrial development. The subject area is currently used for a soil removal operation.
About a dozen people attended a public meeting for the official community plan amendment on April 25. Feedback from the proposal identified concerns over issues such as air pollution, impact on property values, noise impacts and the effects on traffic and safety.
Public hearings begin at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
The meeting will also feature an update from the Prince George Air Improvement Roundtable and the recognition of Fei Ge, the city's 2013 Youth of the Year.
