The City of Prince George swept past its target of selling 2,020 ticket deposits for its bid to host the 2020 Tim Horton's Brier.
The city announced this morning it had sold 2,332 ticket deposits for the national men's curling championship. The deadline passed over the weekend. City officials are still urging members of the public to show their support for the bid by purchasing ticket deposits.
"We are tremendously pleased that Northern B.C. is rallying to support our bid for the 2020 Brier! People definitely want to see this event come to Prince George," said CN Centre Manager Glen Mikkelsen, Chair of the Prince George 2020 Brier Bid Committee.
"For those who still wish to purchase deposits to support the Bid, that opportunity is still available. Bidding on the Brier is a very competitive process so the more deposits purchased, and the more people who commit to tournament ticket passes, the better our proposal will be."
Individuals can purchase deposits online at ticketsnorth.ca or by phone at 1-888-293-6613. The deposits lock in the chance to purchase a full tournament pass, which reserves a seat to all draws of the Brier including the playoffs and final game. The pass also provides access to the celebrated "Brier Patch," the legendary tournament party held every year. Ticket prices are still undetermined, although the price for the this year's Brier, which recently wrapped up in Regina, was $499.
All ticket deposits will be refunded should Prince George not win the 2020 Brier. However, if the bid is successful, deposits will not be refunded.
Prince George's bid must be submitted to Curling Canada by June 30, 2018. The successful bid is expected to be announced sometime this fall.
