The snow has arrived and the City of Prince George says they're prepared.

With 30 cm of snow possible over the next 24 hours, the city is notifying the public of their snow and control operations over the next few days.

While temperatures are warm today (Jan. 31), priority routes are being addressed with deicing materials.

Overnight Thursday (Jan. 31), crews will begin grading and ploughing priority routes.

They add with the forecasted snowfall and the length of the snowstorm, the routes will most likely need to be looked at again on a subsequent nightshift.

Priority One routes, like the downtown area, 15th Ave., the hospital, and 5th Ave., are constantly ploughed during the night shift to reduce interfering with higher daytime traffic volumes.

As of this morning, all city and contracted resources will be employed and continue working until priority routes One, Two, and Three have been done to the best conditions.

Residential route clearing also keeps in mind garbage collection days.

There is also a large decline in temperature forecasted this weekend.

The city says there are multiple factors when decisions are made about operations, timelines and decisions including temperatures, accompanying weather systems and total snow accumulation.

Environment Canada says 10 more cm could fall tonight (Jan. 31) and another 10 cm Friday with winds up to 40 km/h and a temperature of -10.
