Many businesses in Prince George are struggling to fill positions and the city is looking for opinions to help make changes.
A labour force analysis is being undertaken to understand how to increase and diversify in the expansion of businesses currently in the city.
In the most recent city Business Insights Report, numerous companies have said they are struggling when it comes to filling open positions locally and also attracting people from other communities to fill those spots.
“The city greatly values the perspectives and insights of the business community,” Melissa Barcellos, Manager of Economic Development, says in a release. “The results of this survey will inform the city’s strategies and initiatives that will support greater alignment between talent supply and workforce demand in the city of Prince George.”
The survey will take roughly 12 to 15 minutes to complete. Responses are aggregated, which means individual answers won't be shared beyond the consulting firm.
Businesses operators interested in filling out the survey is asked to email the City Economic Development Division.
The analysis will be conducted by MDB Insight, an economic development consultancy.
A detailed overview of the existing workforce situation will be provided, including identifying high demand occupations within existing and potential future business, an examination of commuting patterns, immigration and e-migration.
The report will also identify regions that serve as a source for labour supply that is in demand locally.
The city hopes the study will help in the following areas:
- Greater alignment of supply and demand
- Talent attraction and retention strategies for local businesses
- Strategies to retain post-secondary graduates
- Improving business competitiveness and the attraction of foreign direct investment to expand the local economy and the competitiveness of the city
