Prince George wants to hear from residents about local childcare needs.
The city will host a public information session this Saturday (Oct. 5) at the South Fort George Family Resource Centre (1200 La Salle Ave.) from 2 to 5 p.m.
All parents, caregivers and families are invited to drop by and see a public information display, ask any questions and provide comments to city staff.
The event is free, open to the public and does not require registration from attendees; children are also welcome.
The city says information received will help identify specific issues, trends and needs related to the creation of new childcare spaces over the next decade in Prince George.
The provincial government announced recently they are investing $ 1 billion over three years to childcare, including $237 million in funding to improve the access to childcare, and that also includes the creation of 22,000 new licensed childcare spaces.
The Ministry of Children and Family Development has given $2.85 million for the Community Child Care Planning Program, which is administered by the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM).
The city was given a grant from UBCM through the program to engage in planning activities that will create a community action plan to create more childcare spaces.
If you can't make it to the information session, you can take the online survey until Oct. 13.
