Prince George is adding more amenities aimed at being attractive to seniors to a local park through a redevelopment program.
The second phase of the Ron Brent Park project recently began, the city says.
In 2018, the first part was finished with the construction of a new playground, as well as sports field at Ron Brent Elementary School in a partnership with SD57.
With the second phase, the project will bring friendly additions for seniors, including:
- Accessible paved trails with lighting
- Horseshoe pits, seniors fitness equipment and storage building
- Paved parking at Connaught Youth Centre
- Landscaping with irrigated lawn, trees and site furnishings
- Large garden featuring plans native to the region
The park is located next to Ron Brent Elementary, Connaught Youth Centre, Riverbend Seniors Manor, Gateway Lodge between 17 and 20 Avenues and Victoria and Oak Streets.

A release says the project was done through the subdivision of a 1.8-hectare portion of Ron Brent Park for the Riverbend Seniors housing development, which the city committed to improving the renaming of a 1.3-hectare portion of the park and community area.
"The park design was developed with feedback from nearby residents, the elementary school, Connaught Youth Centre, and other stakeholders," the statement explains.
"The attractive and central site is being developed with a goal to be accessible for people of all mobility levels, and includes exercise equipment for seniors, such as the nearby residents of Riverbend."
Construction is expected to be finished by the end of August.
