City hall is declining to comment on whether a firefighter who has committed a criminal offence can keep his job.
Asked to provide details on city policy regarding such a circumstance, city spokesperson Mike Kellett said Thursday the city does not comment on human resource issues.
Last week, Benjamin Taffy Williams, a firefighter at Prince George Fire Rescue, was found guilty of possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Provincial court judge Reginald Harris concluded Williams, 39, knew the jetboat and trailer he bought from a fellow firefighter, Jeremy Kostyshyn, 33, were stolen items and displayed willful ignorance when he purchased them.
Just prior to his arrest on May 1 2013, Williams received a phone call from RCMP who told him there might be stolen items on his property and arranged to drop by later in the day to have a look.
Moments after hanging up, Williams hooked the trailer and boat to the back of his truck and left his 6600-block Bench Drive property. He was quickly arrested by RCMP, who had been keeping an eye on the property.
A date for sentencing Williams has not yet been set.
Kostyshyn continues to face charges of trafficking in stolen property and his case remains before the court.
When news of an investigation into the matter was announced in May 2013, the city suspended a firefighter without pay and launched an internal review.
The name of the person suspended has not been released.
On Thursday, Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief Cliff Warner also declined to comment, saying the issue is a matter for the personnel department at city hall. As well, the Prince George Fire Fighters Union Local 1372 did not return a phone call Thursday.
