Two sets of neighbourhood streets are earmarked for a cosmetic treatment later this summer.
Roads in the Pinewood and North Meadow areas are the subject of a recently closed city bid for microsurfacing contractors.
Microsurfacing, or micropaving, consists of a thin layer of a mixture of aggregate, asphalt, polymer, water and other mineral fillers being applied to streets that are already in adequate condition.
"Microsurfacing isn't a rehabilitation strategy that adds structure to the road. So the road needs to be in good shape to be a candidate," said city street operations supervisor Mick Jones.
The practice was brought back to the city last year after dabbling in it nearly a decade ago, said Jones, and is part of the road rehabilitation budget.
"And it was done on a residential street and it's still performing fairly well," he added.
Only residential roads, that are low-speed and low-volume are being targeted as potential micropaving candidates. The 30,000 square metres outlined in the bid documents could take an estimated 10 days to complete, weather permitting, with the target for completion in mid-September.
The roads slated for microsurfacing this year are:
* Webber Crescent - 22nd Ave to Rush Place
* Rush Place - Webber Crescent into cul de sac

Paving progression
Three days worth of road rehab will begin Monday on Foothills Boulevard between Chief Lake and West Austin Road.
The $396,000 worth of work consisting of 1.8 lane kilometres is part of the 16 projects in the city's 2013 paving schedule.
