The city of Prince George received more than $600,000 last month through the traffic fine revenue sharing program.

The program is in place to return all of the net revenues from traffic violations that occur in municipalities which pay for their policing.

There is no restriction on how communities can use the funds, but they're intended to improve safety. In the past Prince George has used the money its received from the program to enhance alcohol-related traffic enforcement among other programs.

Meanwhile, the Fraser-Fort George Regional District was allocated $82,818 through a related program under the banner of the Strategic Community Investment Fund.

Province wide, the province distributed more than $56 million through the traffic fine program, small community grants for municipalities with less than 20,000 residents and regional district grants.
