Initiatives Prince George is changing leadership and it's not clear what it will mean for the city's economic development agency.

IPG announced the resignation of president Tim McEwan yesterday. Vice-president Heather Oland takes over as acting CEO today; McEwan will stay on until Feb. 17 to assist in the transition.

The announcement stated McEwan is leaving to pursue other opportunities. However McEwan said he is "not at liberty to say" what his new position will be or whether that will take him outside the city.

He did say, however, that Prince George needs continued leadership in support of IPG to bring the city's opportunities to fruition.

"This quasi-independent economic development model is best practice; I hope it continues in its current form," McEwan said. "Last year PriceWaterhouseCoopers did a review that showed it's good

value for money."

Mayor Shari Green said McEwan's work was very appreciated, and his departure offers the city and IPG a chance to regroup and set priorities.

"One of the big things we want to see is growth in our community. They have worked very hard to get Prince George on the map in a lot of circles where it wasn't before," Green said.

"Now when people are looking for places to develop, they may be considering Prince George when they wouldn't have otherwise.
