City crews have so far been meeting the new timelines set out for snow-clearing, according to the associate director of public works.

"So for instance, last week that snow event ended early on the Monday morning and that five-day timeframe would have had us out there until about early morning on Saturday and we met those timeframes for creating accessibility and clearing throughout the city for the roads," said Gina Layte Liston.

Last fall, council approved a new snow and ice control procedure that calls for all city streets to be plowed within five days of the end of a snowfall. After that five days, crews circle back to widen streets and pick up windrows, Layte Liston said.

Another change to the procedure was that downtown streets didn't have to be finished the first night after a snowfall, but can now be done within the first two days.

"So there is some sort of flexibility for those crews to make sure that those major throughways into the downtown and such from one side of town to the other also get completed," Layte Liston said.

New winter parking restrictions were also put into place before the beginning of winter, leading to more collaboration between the roads and bylaw departments.

Since the beginning of 2015 through Jan. 10, winter parking violations have resulted in 45 vehicles getting towed and 115 $50 tickets being issued.

"That co-operation has been fantastic this year," Layte Liston said. "Bylaw services have provided the roads division with the services that they need to get the vehicles towed or ticketed so that work can be done in an efficient manner now."
