Prince George city council business will now be more accessible to the hearing-impaired, after the city introduced closed caption technology to city council livestreams.
City council meetings are streamed live on the city’s website, and recordings of the videos are available for later viewing. The live streams will now include automated close caption software to translate what is said during the meetings into text.
“The closed captioning is captured through an artificial intelligence (AI) service, which means that at times there may be inaccurate spellings or interpretations of words, depending on the speed, accent, and word pronunciation and enunciation of the speaker,” a statement issued by the city said.
City council meets next on Monday at 3:30 p.m. to begin budget deliberations.
