Prince George might be on its way towards losing its distinction as having the province's worst roads.
Next Tuesday, BCAA will release the results of its online 2013 Worst Roads survey.
As of last week, Prince George only had one thoroughfare on the Top 10, with Foothills Boulevard in a three-way tie for last place with BC Parkway at Boundary Road in Burnaby and Port Mellon Highway in Gibsons.
Leading the pack last week was BC Parkway east of Joyce Street in Vancouver. According to BCAA the majority of votes for the worst road title were located in the Lower Mainland, followed by locations in Prince George and on Vancouver Island.
Voting was open between April 29 and May 27. More than 1,300 votes were cast.
In the 2012 survey, Domano and Tabor Boulevards and 15th Avenue all made the final list for their potholes and crumbling pavement.
"While potholes are an issue in many parts of the province, as we speak with road users during this campaign, we're seeing road design is a major concern for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians," said Ken Cousin, BCAA's associate vice president of Road Assist. "Better roads and the safety of all road users is a priority for BCAA and road users are telling us they consider poor road design as a contributing factor to traffic congestion, and more importantly, the increased risk of traffic accidents involving vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians."
Mayor Shari Green said she's pleased with this year's road rehabilitation project, which got underway this week.
"Over $5 million this year is being spent of permanent money, which is great," Green said. "So council's really been focused this last year and a half trying to make sure that the right dollars are allocated to road repair."
