City campaign donations, spending released

Nine of 26 candidates reported out to date

Nine of 26 candidates in the 2011 municipal election have disclosed their campaign contributions, with 20 days remaining before the legislated deadline.

Mayoralty candidates Eugene Fetterly, Alex Huber and Brandon Lewis have disclosed their campaign contributions to the city. City councillors Garth Frizzell and Murry Krause, along with unsuccessful council candidates Joanne Dickenson, Debora Munoz, Travis Shaw and Harry Ulch have disclosed their campaign donations.

The remaining three mayoralty candidates and 14 city council candidates have until 5 p.m. on March 19 to file their campaign contribution forms with the city. The forms are then posted on the city's website at http://princegeorge.ca/cityhall/elections/Pages/Default.aspx.

Mayoralty candidates

Fetterly ran the tightest campaign, taking no donations and reusing old campaign signs.

Lewis took no donations, but spent $849.80 out of his own pocket on signs and campaign buttons.

Huber received a total of $5,650 in donations, and spent $6,153.40 in total on his campaign. Huber's largest backer was Spruce Capital Feeds, which donated $4,500 to his campaign. The remaining $1,150 came from two individual donors.

Council candidates

City councillor Garth Frizzell raised $2,260 in donations and spent $2,321.39 on his campaign. Local Realtor, and former Initiatives Prince George chairperson, Clint Dahl was Frizzell's top donor at $1,000. Other notable donations were the Prince George Global Logistics Park Inc. at $300, Treasure Cove Hotel and Casino owner John Major at $400 and local Realtor Harry Backlin at $200.

Councillor Murry Krause drew $1,625 in donations and put $8,000 of his own money into his campaign. His total campaign spending reached $9,594.66. Krause's largest donor was Prince George Logistics Park Inc. at $300, followed by Falcon Contracting Ltd. and the Prince George and District Labour Council at $250 each.

Incumbent councillor Debora Munoz received $4,137.48 in donations, and contributed $2,517.59 of her own money to her campaign. Munoz's largest donor was the Health Sciences Association of B.C., of which Munoz is a member, at $1,607.48. Her second-largest campaign donation came from Treasure Cove Hotel and Casino owners John and Shelly Major.

Council candidate Harry Ulch raised $500 in donations and contributed $3,450 of his own money to his campaign. Ulch's donations came from five family members.

Candidates Travis Shaw and Joanne Dickenson declared their received no donations and did not spend anything on their campaigns.
