City bans all open fires

Coincides with provincial measures

The City of Prince George is, like the provincial government, banning open fires due to hazardous conditions. The prohibition takes effect on Crown land and city land simultaneously starting Thursday.

Prince George fire chief Jeff Rowland announced that "the ban on open fires follows the lead of the Ministry of Forests campfire ban that will be effective the same date."

He said the ban applies to all open burning including recreational fires. It will remain in effect "until further notice, due to the dry conditions" which are being felt here and across most of the province.
