The Citizen is pleased to welcome the paper's newest reporter, Ashley MacDonald.

Among MacDonald's coverage will be community-related features, seniors news and features and outdoor recreation. She's also passionate about music and the arts.

"If I ever goes missing - look in the audience first," she laughed.

A recent graduate of Langara journalism school in Vancouver, the self-professed "queen of Google" said she wanted to find a career that would combine research and writing, as well as provide her the opportunity to connect with people.

MacDonald said she was ready to relocate anywhere for a career in journalism when she began school, and two years later, her career path led her to Prince George.

"I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, and I'm thrilled to be contributing for such a good newspaper," she said.

MacDonald is already familiar with the area as an outdoor recreation destination.

She said her favourite memory of Prince George is from 2001 when she went on a rafting trip on the Fraser River, launching from Prince George and arriving in Vancouver two weeks later.

"It was one of the best experiences in my life," she said.

And although summer is only beginning, MacDonald is already bracing for what the winter will bring.

"Born and raised in Vancouver, getting used to living in the north will take some time but I'm up for the challenge," she said.

And her partner, who is currently is living in Australia, said he is looking forward to making the trek across the globe and turning into a northerner too.
