Christy Clark announced today she will seek the leadership of the B.C. Liberal Party, saying she wants to put families first.
She also gave a nod to rural B.C., saying that the province's resource-based economy is important, including for Vancouver.
"I believe British Columbians are seeking new leadership. And by that I don't just mean leadership in the form of an individual," says Clark. "I am talking about the kind of leadership that seeks to put more power in the hands of everyday citizens and that fosters a more participatory style and form of government."
An MLA for nine years, including time as education minister and deputy premier, Clark has spent the last three years as the host of the Christy Clark Show on CKNW radio and broadcast around the province.
"My experience on air, outside the cocoon of Victoria, gave me a fresh perspective. I learned that government in this province needs to be better tuned in to the families of B.C.," says Clark.
She joins Moira Stilwell, George Abbott, Kevin Falcon and Mike de Jong.
