An early-morning chip truck spill partially blocked Highway 97 at North Star Road in Quesnel on Thursday for about four hours.
That's how long it took a clean-up crew and environmental specialists to remove the debris and deal with the spilled diesel and hydraulic fluid following the mishap, which occured at about 12:30 a.m.
A semi truck pulling a fully loaded wood chip trailer lost control and tipped its load, spreading debris over southbound lanes, Quesnel RCMP Cst. Krista Vrolyk said.
A detour through a nearby highway access ramps meant minimal impact on motorists, she said.
The 43-year-old driver was transported to Quesnel's G.R. Baker Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.
A vehicle inspection has been ordered and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Quesnel RCMP and Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
