Darcy Delany Tomah, 29, has been charged in a late night incident Monday in a residential neighbourhood.

Two others were arrested at the scene (later released without charges) while Tomah was not taken into custody until later in the week.

The assault, which police spokesman Gary Godwin called "vicious," was against a lone 39-year-old male who was struck several times including to the head. "His injuries were life-threatening. He was transferred to a hospital in Vancouver where he is now in serious but stable condition."

The incident occurred on Monday night in the vicinity of 5th Avenue and Harper Street at about 11 p.m.

Godwin said Tomah was known to police, but did not disclose the details about the first two taken into custody at the scene, nor why they were released. He did say the investigation was still very active.
