Local businesses are coming outside to meet the public right in the middle of the Prince George street.

Member businesses of the Chamber of Commerce will gather in front of the agency's offices on Wednesday. The block has been closed for driving that day, and the Rotary barbecue will be sizzling the burgers. Businesses from all over the city will set up together for a pedestrian extravaganza.

"It was offered for the first time as part of our centennial events last year, but the Rotary barbecue ran out of food, there were unexpected amounts of people, and the members had a really good response from the public," said Chamber CEO Jennifer Brandle-McCall. "From our members, the feedback was so great - particularly from the home based businesses, who want that chance to connect face to face - they asked us to do it again and we will do so on an annual basis as long as it continues to be popular."

More than 30 local businesses have signed up to have a table on the block. Some will bring information, others will bring their stuff for sale.

"Come for a walk on our block, bring a few co-workers, bring your friends, have some lunch with us, and see what all your local businesses have to offer," said Brandle-McCall. "Celebrate small business with us."

As long as there isn't any rain, the event on Wednesday will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 890 Vancouver St. If there is wet weather, the event will be postponed until early September. The forecast does include showers for the region, but organizers and businesses are optimistic that the pavement in front of the Chamber of Commerce will stay dry and lively.
