A new president and several new board members now sit around the Chamber of Commerce table.

The Chamber's annual general meeting and election of officers was held Wednesday and brought the new faces to the board. The presidency and five other executive positions were elected by acclamation.

Now sitting in the president's chair is Ranjit Gill, executive director of the Railway and Forestry Museum.

The past-president is Derek Dougherty.

"Derek was a very strong president and we are very happy to know he will remain involved, especially on the advocacy side," said Chamber CEO Christie Ray. "Ranjit is extremely well connected in our community and brings the perspective of so many other community groups she is involved in. She has an advocacy background, and that is particularly important in a municipal election year. She has proven a number of ways that she works on projects with dedication and hard work, so she doesn't just participate at the strategic level, she also puts in the efforts to ensure that things get done."

That element of community interaction embodied by Gill is also the main trait of the new board itself, Ray said.

"The diversity around the table is amazing," said Ray. "I'm so excited to work with this group. They provide so many connections into different segments of the community so we get the benefit of a wide variety of perspectives."
