Winning a provincial title is a great feeling, but doing it against the team that beat you last year makes it a little bit sweeter.
The Cariboo Cougars earned that feeling this past weekend after sweeping the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League (BCMML) Championship series 2-0, defeating the reigning provincial champions 3-0 on Friday (March 29) and 8-2 on Saturday (March 30).

In the 2018 final, the Major Midget Cats were swept by the T-birds in Prince George, while this year, they were able to redeem themselves with a sweep in Fraser Valley’s home barn of the MSA Arena in Abbotsford.
This is the second BCMML title for Cariboo in three years and in their fifth consecutive finals appearance, becoming the first team with multiple championships in the last six seasons.
Jaxon Danilec, Curtis Hammond, and Fischer O’Brien each picked up three points over the two games, while five other players had two points in the final series.
The Cougars will now head over the Rockies into Alberta for the Pacific Finals in seeing who will represent the region at the 2019 Telus Cup in Thunder Bay, Ontario later this month.
The Calgary Buffaloes won their major midget provincial championship and will host Cariboo this weekend, April 5 to 7, in the best-of-three series.
