Capital projects of note approved in the 2014 budget

Elimination of three BC Hydro poles and the burial of overhead lines from the lane south of Fourth Avenue to just south of Fifth Avenue. The project is said to provide additional room for a planned transit exchange/stop to be incorporated into the park portion of the Wood Innovation and Design Centre - $420,000, third-party funds.

Tear down of picnic shelters at Fort George Park near the spray park and tennis courts. The structures are still safe, but have come to the end of their useful life, said operations superintendent Bill Gaal - $175,000, capital expenditure reserve.

Slope erosion protection for a collector well (PW605) that serves more than 13,000 customers in the west bowl, University Heights, upper College Heights and UNBC - $1.187 million.

Council also asked staff to look at possibilities for moving the installation of washrooms at Duchess Park ($130,000) and paving 1.5 metre-wide shoulders along North Nechako Road from Foothills Boulevard to Bench Drive ($208,000) from the unfunded to the funded list.
