Canada Winter Games a rare opportunity

Even getting a chance to bid on the hosting a Canada Games - summer or winter - doesn't come around very often.

Even getting a chance to bid on the hosting a Canada Games - summer or winter - doesn't come around very often.

They're held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, and are rotated through the nation's 10 provinces and three territories.

The last time they were held in B.C. was in 1993 when the summer games were hosted by Kamloops, and that was 20 years after they were held in New Westminster and Burnaby.

By winning the bid, Prince George will host the Canada Winter Games the same year it will be celebrating its 100th birthday - one of the reasons city council first decided to take a run at the event back in the summer of 2008.
