Despite early penalty trouble, the Canadians held on and while the first half of the game was essentially scoreless, both teams found the back of the net later in the game. At one point Russia had a 3-1 lead, but Canada fought back to tie the game with less than nine minutes left in the game.
The tournament had a touch of redemption for Canada, as they finished outside of medal contention last year when the tournament was held in Vancouver and Victoria. It was Canada's 18th win at the annual tournament.
