Campfires will be prohibited west of the Fraser River and throughout Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park in the Cariboo Fire Centre, effective noon Thursday the B.C. wildfire management branch said.
The use of tiki torches and chimineas will also be banned in these areas.
"The Cariboo Fire Centre is currently experiencing dry conditions and elevated fire danger
ratings," the branch said. "The fire danger ratings are generally high to extreme with a small pocket of moderate in the far northeast corner of the fire centre."
Category 2 and category 3 open burns are already prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire
Centre. Specifically, these prohibited activities include the burning of any waste, slash or other materials, stubble or grass fires of any size over any area, the use of fireworks, the use of sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description and the use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for target practice).
The use of air curtain burners (forced-air burning systems) will also be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre beginning noon Thursday.
