As of Friday at noon, the campfire ban for the entire Prince George fire zone will be lifted.
Recent rain this week has reduced the fire hazard in the Prince George and Robson Valley fire zones and Category 1 open-burning fires will be allowed.
The Prince George Fire Centre is reminding people who do light those fires (no larger than a half-metre high and a half-metre wide) to have access to a shovel or at least eight litres of water nearby. It’s also required to have a fuel break around the campfire free of combustible materials.
If leaving the fire for any length of time, make sure the fire is fully extinguished to the point at which the ashes feel cold to the touch.
Campfire bans remain in effect in the five other fire zones that are under the Prince George Fire Centre jurisdiction.
The ban on Category 2 and Category 3 fires is still in place.
That means no fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of ay size, and no binary exploding targets.
