Canadian Blood Services is calling on British Columbians to visit their local blood donation centres after receiving lower than expected contributions throughout June and in early July.
The national blood collection agency said it needs 3,088 more people from B.C. to make appointments to donate to keep up with constant hospital demand for blood products.
"With summer activities and vacations we find that our booked appointments drop and looking out two weeks there's not enough relief in sight," B.C. and Yukon director of donor and clinic services Ed Yee said in a news release. "The reality is that the need for blood does not take a summer vacation and we need more Canadians to book an appointment now."
According to Yee, at this point the national inventory has been stable enough to provide everyone in need with blood products, but that inventory must now be replenished.
