The mayor of Cache Creek has issued a local state of emergency following flooding in the village.

Evacuation orders are also in place for all properties adjacent to Cache Creek, from and including Brookside Campground to Quartz Road.

The Cache Creek Motor Inn has also been told to evacuate immediately.

Evacuees are asked to register at the emergency support services centre, located at the Cache Creek Community Hall, at 1270 Stage Rd.

If a ride is required, call the reception desk at 250-457-3081.

Evacuees are being reminded to shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than fridges and freezers.

Close all windows and doors and don't forget to take critical items, like medicine, money and keys.

"Take pets in pet kennels or on leash," reads the evacuation order.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The River Forecast Centre has upgraded a number of flood watches in B.C.'s Interior to flood warnings.

The new flood warnings cover Cache Creek, Cariboo and Chilcotin (Fraser Plateau).

According to the centre's online bulletin, the BC Interior has seen high temperatures over the past several days.

It's been between 10 C and 19 C in Williams Lake and Prince George, and up to 24 C around Cache Creek, compared to the sub-zero daily maximum temperatures that were felt earlier this month.

"Snowmelt rates have increased, with reports that the rapid transition in temperatures may be playing a factor in increased overland flow due to frozen ground conditions and ice-jamming," states the River Forecast Centre.

"River levels have been rising rapidly, with high flows being observed in small tributary rivers and creeks throughout the Interior Plateau, from Cache Creek north through Williams Lake, Quesnel and west across the Chilcotin."

In its bulletin, the centre notes temperatures are expected to ease slightly, with temps a few degrees cooler than Monday's highs.

"With overnight temperatures above 0 C, snowmelt rates are expected to remain high, with continued river rises expected on Tuesday and potentially into Wednesday," reads the statement.

A flood warning is also in place for the Nazko River and West Road River; a flood watch is in effect for tributary rivers and streams around Chilako and southwest of Prince George.

What's the difference?

What's a flood watch and what's a flood warning?

According to the River Forecast Centre, a watch means river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull.

Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur.

A warning is when river levels have exceeded bankfull or will exceed bankfull imminently; flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will take place.
