Busy Burns Lake detachment

In Burns Lake, where the population is about 2,500, RCMP are kept busy. During the week of June 14 to 21, the police responded to 96 calls for service.

In Burns Lake, where the population is about 2,500, RCMP are kept busy. During the week of June 14 to 21, the police responded to 96 calls for service.

A total of 42 were directly related to alcohol or drug abuse and 17 persons were given protective custody.

The calls also included nine assaults, 12 traffic concerns (two impaired drivers), 22 liquor act violations, nine reports of causing disturbance, six breaches of court orders, two reports of thefts, three calls to assist mental health issues, three illegal drug issues, two residential breaking and enter calls, two firearm concerns and two missing persons along with single calls regarding uttering threats and fraud, and requests to assist in matters of Ministry of Children and Family Development and emergency health services.

Presently, Burns Lake has 16 police officers including three who work strictly with traffic matters.
