Bus fares on rise

Public transportation fares will rise in the new year. Effective Jan. 2, a new fare structure for the Prince George Transit System will come into effect, with cash fares going up $0.25. The brings adult fares to $2.

Public transportation fares will rise in the new year.

Effective Jan. 2, a new fare structure for the Prince George Transit System will come into effect, with cash fares going up $0.25.

The brings adult fares to $2.50 and fares for seniors and students to $2.

Discount and pre-paid products will also be affected. Ticket bundles of 10 trips will be $22.50 for adults, up from $17. Tickets for seniors and students will be $18. Monthly passes will cost adults $57.50 ($1.44 per trip, based on 40 rides per month) and $40 for students and seniors. The ProPass rate will go up $3 to $49.35 while DayPASS prices will be $6.25 for adults and $5.25 for students and seniors - up from $5 and $4.50, respectively.

According to BC Transit, it's been four years since fares were last adjusted.
