Burns Lake water rising

Official flooding has not occurred yet, but the Village of Burns Lake has opened a Level 1 Emergency Operations Centre in case things worsen.

Official flooding has not occurred yet, but the Village of Burns Lake has opened a Level 1 Emergency Operations Centre in case things worsen.

"There is no immediate threat of flooding or road washouts," said the municipality's Director of Protective Services Jim McBride. "Burns Lake has taken the necessary steps to prepare and prevent an emergency."

Saul Creek, the lake's main tributary within town boundaries, is running fast and deep and all storm drains "are running at full capacity," said McBride, since spring's late runoff and heavy rains have combined.

"We are hoping that the rain stops soon," said Burns Lake Mayor Bernice Magee.
