A barbecue today will spark the launch of fundraising for the third Annual Prince George Fire Fighters' Burn Fund Cycle Tour.

The patties and dogs will be on the grill from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spruceland branch of Scotiabank. The money will go towards the efforts of local firefighters helping the province's burn fund.

The bike ride happens on June 24 and 25. Five local firefighters, with help from local support staff, will pedal to Dragon Lake near Quesnel then back again, which has raised more than $7,000 each of the past two years.

"The Burn Fund provides life-saving, life-supporting, and life-enriching services to people all across British Columbia," said local spokesperson Kelly Henderson.

"Funds raised will help benefit burn survivors in Northern B.C. as well as throughout the province."

The Children's Burn Program, which treats B.C.'s most severe pediatric burn cases, is located at Women's and Children's Hospital in Vancouver. The Burn Fund donates to the work they do, as well as the Victoria's Royal Jubilee Burn Unit, and the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters' Burn, Plastic and Trauma Unit at Vancouver General Hospital.

"Regionally, the Burn Fund provides staff training and pays for burn survivor support in all hospitals around the province, as well as a fully-equipped occupational and physiotherapy facility to begin mobilization and rehabilitation," said Henderson.

In addition to the barbecue today, another will be held at City Hall on June 3, and another on June 18 at Superstore.

Fire Hall 2, located at Fifth and Ospika, will host an open house and car wash on July 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. so the public can meet the city's fire personnel in person and have them wash your car, for a donation.
