The COVID-19 pandemic hasn't significantly slowed down requests for building permits in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
The district had issued a total of 167 building permits between Jan. 1 and July 20, according to data released In a report to the district board on Thursday. By comparison, the district had issued 189 permits over the same period last year.
However, the value of the permits this year totalled $26.1 million, up nearly 70 per cent compared to the $15.4 million issued over the same period in 2019.
Five commercial building permits worth almost $11.5 million, and permits for 22 new single-family homes worth roughly $10.4 million, made up the bulk of the value of new construction.
Of the 167 permits issued to date this year, 90 were in Electoral Areas A (Salmon River-Lakes) and C (Chilako River-Nechako), located northwest and southwest of Prince George.
