UPDATE: Broken old water pipe fixed at Westwood Elementary, students return to class Tuesday

Prince George students were sent home due to the incident

2:15 p.m.

School District 57 (SD57) says students will be able to return to Westwood Elementary tomorrow (Nov. 19).

The Prince George district says an aging water line has been repaired by technical crews after it was discovered to be broken earlier this morning (Nov. 18).

SD57 adds it's a water main that services the portables at Westwood Elementary and simply failed overtime.

As a result of the incident, the water supply had to be cut off and students were sent home.

A contractor was also called to help fix the damaged pipe.

Classes will resume as normal tomorrow.

9:30 a.m.

Students are being sent home this morning from Westwood Elementary School.

Prince George's School District 57 has decided to close the facility today after finding a break in the water line nearby.

Westwood is in the process of contacting parents to pick up students to take safely home, according to SD57.

The school's water supply is being shut off as crews are being sent to investigate the cause of the damage.

We'll bring more updates as information becomes available.
