Dr. Bonnie Henry says B.C. is remaining committed to returning students to school this week - and this has been the plan since March.

"We have been committed from the day classes were suspended to making sure we had the structure in place for schools to open, as they are doing later this week," she said during her COVID-19 update on Tuesday (Sept. 8).

"We have been focusing on is what we can do to keep community transmission rates low - and that is the most important thing in getting schools going."

Health Minister Adrian Dix says the key is learning as they go to keep students safe.

"We are going to be dealing with this pandemic for a long time, and there are things we can do in the health care system, to help stop the spread," he said.

"Always have a willingness to learn lessons and apply them. We have to continue to learn from what we see in other jurisdictions."

Curfew has not been considered yet, but Henry noted keeping personal bubbles to where they were in March is a good guideline.

Henry said it was key to make sure BC's health care system remains protected going to the colder months.

"We have to look how to adjust going into the winter."
