The city is asking for public input on whether they want to top up the policy on alcohol service.
An online survey is now available on the city's website (www.princegeorge.ca) for residents to offer comment on the Municipal Alcohol Procedure - guidelines for consumption in civic settings. The city's procedure dates back to 1997 but was updated for a 2012 pilot project to serve liquor at CN Centre during Cougars games and other special events.
The city has also tapped into a provincially run Healthy Communities program to do a comprehensive review of the procedure alongside the pilot project, partnering with the Ministry of Health, the Centre of Addictions Research of B.C., RCMP, B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch, CN Centre and other city staff and suppliers and vendors.
In addition to the online survey, input can also be given during a public open house on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at the College of New Caledonia in room 1-306. The survey and procedure document will also be available for review at city facilities and various CN Centre events until Dec. 15.
According to an Oct. 23 report to council, during the pilot program annual revenue from alcohol sales increased by 100 per cent during Cougars games, concerts and events and alcohol-related incidents dropped from a high of three per hockey game to zero and did not increase during concerts and other events.
