For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic started the Friends of the Prince George Public Library Society held their Book Sale, which took place Friday and is still going strong Saturday in the Keith Gordon Room until 3 p.m.
On Friday about 500 people came through the doors and the same is expected for Saturday.
“People have been very generous so our fundraising efforts have been very good so far,” Margaret Johnston, past-president of the society and organizer of the book sale, said Saturday morning.
The sale continues today until 3 p.m. so there’s still time to get down there.
“It’s so wonderful to be able to do this once again and in June we’ll have one at the Nechako branch of the library,” Johnston said. “The next one at the main branch will be held in October, hopefully.”
Books are sold by donation with proceeds going to support special items, programs, and initiatives at the library.
The Friends of the Prince George Public Library are a group of local volunteers dedicated to supporting the programs and services of the Prince George Public Library.
“We believe that developing libraries is a crucial part of developing communities and so we support the Prince George Public Library’s success by promoting the library and raising necessary funds for special library projects,” Johnston said.
Since the society’s incorporation in 1990, the Friends of the Library have raised more than $440,000 with fundraising initiatives like book sales, memberships and merchandise sales (mugs and bookbags), and 50/50 draws.
“For over 30 years, the Friends of the Prince George Public Library have supported, promoted and advocated for the Prince George Public Library,” Johnston said. “Our friendship has been built on trust and respect and like all good friends, we intend to be there to support, promote and advocate for the library in the years ahead.”
