Nearby homes were evacuated Friday night after what turned out to be the contents of a bomb were found in the carport of a home on Moffat Street in the Quinson neighbourhood.

Members of the RCMP's explosive device unit were called to the scene at about 9:30 a.m.

They used a robot to examine and open the package which was found to contain bomb-making materials and a pipe closed off at both ends. Members then used a water-pressure explosion to disable the device and the materials were seized.

"Investigation revealed the owner of the package and its contents no longer resided at the location," police said in a statement.
