Blackburn bike park in Prince George scheduled for fall opening

Another Prince George park is set to open next month. 

The City of Prince George has announced Blackburn bike park is currently on scheduled to open in September. 

Blackburn RE/MAX All Wheels Adventure Park is located in Blackburn park adjacent to the Blackburn Community Centre and Blackburn Elementary School. 

The park's features include a dirt bike track, ramps, rails and public washroom facilities. 

“This project has been made possible by the commitment of many community volunteers, and financial contributors, such as RE/MAX Centre City Realty and the City of Prince George,” Jamie Kranrod, Treasurer and Past Chair of the Blackburn Community Association says in a release. “We are also extremely grateful for the construction contractors who pulled together to help make the park a reality. The Community Association looks forward to proudly displaying the new park sign, which will include all the partners who contributed to this effort, and to opening this new community space for everyone to enjoy.”

Funds came from the city, who provided $90,000 to the project, while the community association raised more than $182,000 including a $120,000 commitment from RE/MAX Centre City Realty for park equipment and a $300,000 from in-kind sponsorships and donations. 

The city adds the new park will be a city asset which will also be maintained by city parks staff. 

“Council is eagerly anticipating Prince George’s latest park development and looking forward to celebrating the grand opening this fall in the Blackburn neighbourhood with residents,” Mayor Lyn Hall adds in the release. “We recognize that bringing the project this far has taken a huge effort by a lot of people and we can’t wait to see the end result, which will be a beautiful and exciting new park for all to enjoy.”

The Blackburn Community Association will continue to fundraise for even more park amenities including additional skate park equipment.
