Bell near top for travel expenses

Former Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell had the second highest travel expenses among cabinet ministers last year, according to public account documents released on Tuesday.

Former Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell had the second highest travel expenses among cabinet ministers last year, according to public account documents released on Tuesday.

Bell, who didn't seek re-election in May, billed the government for $61,861 in travel in the fiscal year ending March 31 for his duties as Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training. Additionally, he charged another $249 in relation to his job as MLA.

Bell was second among cabinet members to Premier Christy Clark who racked up $69,431 in travel last year.

Prince George Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, who served as Justice Minister prior to May's election, billed $50,629 in travel expenses for her role in cabinet and $539 as an MLA.

Bond topped the list among cabinet ministers for her Victoria living allowance at $16,822 compared with $15,688 for Bell.

The highest overall living allowance among all members of the assembly belonged to Vernon-Monashee representative Eric Foster at $21,377

Both Bond and Bell collected a base MLA salary of $101,859 and an additional $45,906 premium as cabinet ministers.
