A man who was apprehended by two civilians following a theft from the BX Cold Beer and Wine Store in May was sentenced to one day in jail and one year probation on Monday.
Adam Martin Petavel was also issued a 10-year firearms prohibition on convictions of theft $5,000 or under, assault causing bodily harm and mischief $5,000 or under.
At the time of Petavel's arrest on May 30, police said a lone man grabbed a bottle from the store's shelf and when he was slowed down by the security doors installed at that location he broke through the door and then attempted to flee on a bike.
When a passerby stopped the suspect, a struggle ensued before a BX employee helped subdue the man.
The passerby and the suspect were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Court records show Petavel has a long criminal record composed of minor offences committed in the Lower Mainland, Kelowna and Kamloops. It's the first time he's been convicted of a crime in Prince George.
