Bear cub sanctuary focus of new TV series

Smithers-based Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter is the subject of a 12-part television series on Animal Planet. The first episode of Wild Bear Rescue will air on Fri., June 23 at 10 p.m.

Smithers-based Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter is the subject of a 12-part television series on Animal Planet.

The first episode of Wild Bear Rescue will air on Fri., June 23 at 10 p.m. It will take viewers behind the scenes at NLWS where Angelika and Peter Langen care for at-risk black bear cubs as they prepare for a second chance at life in the wild.

"We are excited to share the touching stories and genuine heroism behind Wild Bear Rescue," said Discovery Networks vice-president and general manager Ken MacDonald. "Equal parts heartwarming and humorous, this series - produced exclusively for Animal Planet audiences - is sure to have viewers falling in love with the Langen family and their adorable bear cubs."
