The City of Prince George is reminding residents to be bear smart with their garbage, now that spring has arrived.
Garbage cans should be stored in a secure location like a garage or shed, and placed on the curb between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on collection day.
"The city encourage residents to put as much garbage as possible into bags prior to placing it in the cart. This helps to reduce the risk of small pieces of garbage falling out of the cart and littering front lawns and streets," a press release issued by the city on Thursday said. "In order to ensure the cart can be properly emptied upon collection, please make sure all refuse is contained within the cart and that the cart lid is completely closed."
Residents are reminded to remove bird feeders, pet food and other bear attractants from their yards, and to keep barbecues clean.
There will be no garbage collection on Good Friday or on Monday, so go online to http://princegeorge.ca/garbagecollection#schedule to see how the collection schedule in your zone will be effected.
