B.C. surpasses 1,800 test-positive COVID-19 cases, another two recorded in Northern Health

Province records four more deaths

B.C. has a new total of 1,824 COVID-19 cases Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced this afternoon (April 23). 

Henry says in the past 24 hours, a total of 29 test-positive cases have been recorded. Yesterday saw 71, which was the largest single-day amount since March. 

Northern Health has two new test confirmed positive cases, bringing the total to 42. 

There are 755 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), 760 in Fraser Health, 111 on Vancouver Island and156 in Interior Health.

There is one new outbreak in long-term care facility in the Fraser Health region. Currently, there are a number active outbreaks in facilities and two new acute care unit outbreaks in the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions. There are 347 individual cases including 217 residents and 130 staff.

A new outbreak has been identified at the Superior Poultry Plant in Coquitlam. Two individual cases have been confirmed. This outbreak is related to the United Poutlry Company outbreak identified earlier this week.

April 21, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Public Health declared an outbreak of COVID-19 among staff working at United Poultry Company Ltd., a chicken processing plant located at 534 East Cordova St.

Northern Health Interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Raina Fumerton said 32 of the 40 positive cases have recovered last night (as of 8:15 p.m.) during a virtual town hall with the Government of B.C.

Henry announced four new deaths in the past 24 hours, which brings the provincial total to 94. 

There are 130 patients in hospital currently while 44 of those cases are in ICU.

The recorded number of recovered cases in B.C. is now 1,092.
