B.C. sees 26 new COVID-19 cases from final June weekend, none in Northern Health

Once again, Northern Health remains at a stand-still compared to other regions in B.C.

For the 20th consecutive day, the region saw no new test-positive COVID-19 cases, keeping its to-date total at 65, and all have recovered.

Meanwhile, B.C. saw 26 total cases recorded over the weekend, a three-day period from Friday's (June 26) update by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, increasing the grand total over a new plateau at 2,904.

This includes 153 active cases, 18 in hospital, five in ICU and 2,577 recoveries.

Fortunately, nobody passed away from the virus over the final weekend of June; the death toll remains at 174.

In other authorities, there are 979 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), 1,529 in Fraser Health, 131 on Vancouver Island and 200 in Interior Health.

There were 10 new cases from Friday to Saturday, 14 cases from Saturday to Sunday, and two new cases from Sunday to Monday. 

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. In total, five long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute-care facility have active outbreaks.

Health officials say a number of people who attended Brandi's Exotic Show Lounge in Vancouver in recent days have since tested positive for the virus. 

While the health agency is asking people who were at the lounge between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. from June 21 to 24, as well as the hours between midnight and 3 a.m. on June 25, to self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days, it says as long as people remain healthy and do not develop symptoms, there is no need to self-isolate, meaning they can continue with their usual daily activities.  

Dr. Henry warns businesses that they may be legally liable if customers or workers become infected, if it is determined they did not adhere to mandated safety precautions.

“We can’t afford to have exceptions or half-measures,” she said.

Henry adds the club has been shut down.

"The safety plan that was in place was not adequate," she said. “Even though our new cases are low, we need to keep it there."

The Beresford Warming Shelter outbreak has also been declared over.
