For all of you foodies out there, this will be disappointing news.

City of Prince George spokesperson Michael Kellett has confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters Foodie Fridays are cancelled this year due to COVID-19 and safety concerns.

"The city had to make a decision early in the spring about whether to coordinate the event this year and, due to COVID-19, the decision was made not to proceed in order to comply with provincial health orders and recommendations concerning crowd sizes and physical distancing," he said.

"However, vendors are still able to apply to the City for a mobile business license."

The fourth annual event was scheduled to move from the Canada Games Plaza over to the city's new park next to UNBC's Wood Innovation Design Centre on Fifth Avenue.

But before being held at the Canada Games Plaza, the Friday fun took place at Veterans Plaza in front of city hall but had to move due to construction.

“The idea was first brought to the attention of City staff by local businesses wishing to add a new dimension to the City’s downtown to complement our already fantastic restaurants and cafés,” Jen Rubadeau, Civic Events Coordinator, explained in 2019.

“Foodie Fridays helps to make use of our fantastic downtown outdoor venues, and give the thousands of people who work in the area, as well as residents and tourists, a pleasant, social, outdoor place to go for a casual lunch.”

Average daily attendance in 2019 was 563 people per event compared to 486 in 2018,and 425 in 2017.
